Classes
Vinyasa, Restorative, Yin and meditation classes are offered. Vinyasa and Restorative are currently on the schedule and Yin and meditation are by request. It’s important to understand what’s involved in each type of yoga. See the schedule for when these classes will be held. Send me a message if you’d like to take a Yin and/or meditation class with me and I’ll add it to the regular schedule once there’s enough interest.
Vinyasa yoga is faster paced than other forms of yoga, and many consider vinyasa a full body heart-pumping workout. This practice incorporates intentional breathing and linking poses with transitions. In our vinyasa classes, you can build strength, endurance, and flexibility. Instruction will include modifications for new yogis and challenges for more
physically active yogis. Vinyasa builds heat and opens the big muscles of the body.
Restorative yoga is a style of yoga that involves holding resting poses using props for a longer period of time, between 5 and 20 minutes. The goal to create an environment where you can replenish and recuperate. When your body achieves deep semi-conscious rest, you can better access your parasympathetic nervous system to heal the body and mind. It’s not just for those who seek healing, though. Restorative yoga is a great way to prepare the body for sleep, to give the mind a purposeful break, and to invite a new perspective if you are feeling stuck or burned out.
Yin yoga focuses on your joints, connective tissues and fascia. Over time, yin yoga can improve your joints’ health and range of motion. Connective tissues and fascia experience improved health and elasticity with regular practice. You won’t find yourself sweating during a yin class, but you will find it extremely challenging. Yin yoga uses your own body weight and gravity to deepen into poses that are held for 3 to 7 minutes. Yin is a compliment to other styles of yoga that build heat and strength, like Vinyasa or Hatha.
Meditation is an antidote to stress. By first connecting with your breath and then learning to control your breath, you tap into the nervous system. While all of our classes have an element of conscious breathing, a meditation class extends the period of time students are focused only on their breath and controlling their thoughts. The goal of meditation is learning to be in the present without judgement. Meditation can increase patience, foster a sense of peace within oneself, and can reduce anxiety. Most importantly, meditation is a skill that gives a person a chance to respond to stressful situations with increased mindfulness and to consciously calm oneself before and after challenges.
